How a stroll at the mall led me to saving children

We received a letter from one of our supporters, sharing how he decided to become a child rights advocate. It all started during a trip to the mall.

How a stroll at the mall led me to saving children

After eating dinner with my family in a newly built mall, I passed by a small booth.

“Save the Children,” the booth’s poster read. I was immediately intrigued.

I stopped and asked the young lady manning the booth, “What is Save the Children?”

She then explained to me the organization’s mission and programs, showing me pictures of children and communities where Save the Children operates.

The organization, I learned, is literally saving children.

"Sir, will you be interested in sharing a small portion of your savings with underprivileged children?” she asked me.

“A small amount will do wonders for these children. It can save them. Your help can go a long way, not only in helping them now – but also in securing their future.”

I was stunned.

Becoming an advocate

How a stroll at the mall led me to saving children

Today, there are still millions of underprivileged Filipino children – not only here in Manila but across the country.

It’s sad to think that these children are growing in numbers.

If we don’t act now, these children will continue to live a substandard quality of life.

Extreme poverty not only damages a child’s potentials, but it can also lead to the eventual collapse of our society as a whole.

Today’s children, after all, are tomorrow’s hope.

The cycle of poverty will continue if we remain indifferent.

“A small amount can already save children,” I remember the young lady at the booth saying.

By sharing even just a small amount of one's savings every month, you’re already making a big difference.

I’m proud to support an organization that does actual on-the-ground work to address the needs of the most vulnerable children in the Philippines.

To further support Save the Children, I also introduced them to my colleagues at work. I suggested for our company to commit and share a portion of its community development funds with Save the Children, as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.

Truly, anyone can save children. All we need is the commitment to love and care for them.
