Heroism in the new normal

Coinciding with National Heroes’ Day, we’re putting a spotlight on the creative and heartfelt fundraisers of our Heroes from Home.

Program: Education

Type: Story

Several individuals have heeded Save the Children Philippines’ call to be “heroes from home” for children. The #HeroFromHome campaign launched in July 2020 encourages individuals to create their own fundraisers, while staying safe in their own homes. The campaign supports educational needs of children as classes are set to begin this October. Donations collected will go to Save the Children Philippines’ COVID-19 response which includes the implementation of Project ARAL (Access to Resources for Alternative Learning).

The Bayanihan spirit has long been ingrained in the Filipino culture and remains to be evident today as demonstrated in the creative fundraising efforts of the Organization’s supporters. Coinciding with National Heroes’ Day, we’re putting a spotlight on the creative and heartfelt fundraisers of our Heroes from Home.

1. Lara Maigue’s Heroes Rising Online Concert
Save the Children Changemaker and award-winning soprano Lara Maigue held an online concert to encourage and motivate her viewers. Lara achieved her target in the first two hours of the concert, and was inspired to extend the show for another hour. She ended the online event achieving over 200% of her original target.

You can still donate to Lara’s fundraiser here or watch the concert through this link.

2. Filipino Youth in the United Kingdom’s Buwan ng Wika Fundraiser
Filipino Youth in the United Kingdom hosted a two-day live streaming event to celebrate Filipino culture through giving back. The event was filled with fun games like Pinoy Henyo and Charades, as well as song and poetry performances from local artists. Their fundraiser received an overwhelming amount of support and they decided to move their goal twice.

3. Chibi Illustrations for the Children
Kath Magpantay, a youth leader in Italy, used her artistic talents to raise funds to support children’s continued learning. Motivated to help guide and support children as they grow up, she created digital Chibi illustrations for those who would donate to her fundraiser. As of this writing, she has already achieve 128% of her goal.

4. Lisa Macuja’s Masterclass in Movement

These heroes have truly become a source of hope for children in these trying times. Through their talent, passion, and creativity, they have encouraged others to help children in this education crisis by either donating or even signing up as a #HeroFromHome themselves. You can also be a hero in your way by setting up a #HeroFromHome fundraising page which is really easy and can be done within minutes! Just follow bit.ly/herofromhome and you’ll be on your way to save the day!
