Why I'm supporting Filipino children all the way from Bahrain

I would like to share my story on why I joined and supported Save the Children Philippines.

I am doing this because it has always been my dream to share my blessings with others.

My own childhood

I came from a very poor family in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. As a child, I was raised by my father who worked as a farmer, and my mother, a housewife.

I had 10 siblings, seven girls and four boys. My parents raised all 11 of us.

I had to be a working student during my time at university since we lacked funds. I worked as a manicurist during the day, and went to my classes at night.

It was particularly difficult when I did practicums and cannot continue my job as a manicurist. I then had to stop my studies entirely. I worked hard to pursue my secretarial course, unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish it.

I was only able to stay in my university, the West Negros University in Bacolod City, for a year and a half.

Why I'm supporting Filipino children all the way from Bahrain

In 1992, I started working as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Bahrain.

I did this to support my family back in the Philippines. I supported my sister and my niece, I supported their studies until they were able to graduate from university.

Now, I have my own family. And I am still here in Bahrain.

I have a son, who is 21 years old and is currently studying at the AMA University here in Bahrain. My husband passed away in 2016.

I am very happy to share my blessings with children back in the Philippines, especially those who need it the most.
