How I became a child rights advocate

Save the Children receives a letter from one of its donors, Ms. Elaine Cua. She shares her story of how she became a child rights advocate.

How I became a child rights advocate

I was walking alone inside Fishermall, waiting for my hubby. I then saw a small red kiosk.

Who ever thought that a simple stroll at the mall would help me find my path towards a truly meaningful advocacy?

A girl named Karen approached me and introduced an organization called Save the Children.

I learned that Karen is a fundraising frontliner, whose goal is to spread awareness about children’s rights – while also raising funds for children’s programs.

While Karen was talking to me, I felt something inside in me. In that very moment, I realized that I really wanted to help people, especially children.

Children around us

How I became a child rights advocate

Every day, I see street children begging for money.

These children are not wearing proper clothes and are not attending school. Many of them go through a whole day without eating anything.

Whenever I see them, I always wonder where their parents are. Why are these children suffering? I feel so much empathy for them.

This is why I'm eager to help children. Our future as a nation, after all, will depend on them.

So it’s up to us to help educate the country’s most vulnerable children. Together, we can provide the care and attention they never had.

I’m so thankful to be introduced to Save the Children.

I’m also thankful to learn that there are many others like me – who are eager to support children for as long as we can.

Very truly yours,

Elaine Cua
